In Tennessee, traditions that go back for generations are greatly celebrated during the holidays. Every year, the old antebellum homes are opened up to the public in grandiose style. These wonderful old homes are decorated with the authentic holiday items from long ago.
This is a holiday tradition that would appeal to both single and those with family. The homes showcase everything from trees to authentic holiday dress. Some are grand elegant displays while others showcase the simpler holiday lifestyles of the past.
Starting with one of the most popular homes in Nashville, the Belle Meade Plantation home features a Victorian Christmas and visitors get a glance of what Christmas was like in the 1880’s. Another popular tourist attraction is the Belmont Mansion. Christmas at the Belmont also is decorated in the Victorian fashion much like the Belle Meade Plantation.
The Cheekwood Mansion’s theme this year is the Season of Celebration and will showcase everyone’s favorite Christmas carols. From “O Christmas Tree” to “Jingle Bells,” each tree brings a different holiday song to life in a new and festive way.
The Hermitage is a national treasure and will be celebrating this year with a Presidential Christmas. Holidays at The Hermitage are a beautiful reminder of how President Andrew Jackson and his family celebrated the holiday. Special Christmas exhibits feature the early traditions and decorations of the 1800s. The property all offers delicious meals in their cafe and unique holiday shopping in the museum store. Throughout the year, they offer a tour that will walk you through this magnificent estate, gardens he and his wife kept, log farmhouse, and the outer buildings that supported the mansion that are still perfectly preserved today. You’ll discover how he lived and many new and interesting facts about the 7th President of the United States.
Continuing with historical homes, The Sam Davis Home’s theme is A Southern Christmas. Here you’ll enjoy the decorations that Sam Davis and his family would have used to celebrate this holiday. Home to a Confederate hero, the home was built along the banks of Stewarts Creek in 1810. This historical home and museum sits on 160 acres of farmland just outside of Nashville. A tour of the home takes you through the life of Sam Davis and his nine room main house, kitchen and smokehouse.
At the Traveller’s Rest Plantation & Museum, visitors will experience an 1830’s Christmas. Costumed knowledgeable guides will walk you through the grounds and explain how the holiday season was celebrated in the early 18th century and hear about the holiday guests the Overton family entertained.
The Tennessee Plantation Christmas Tour is unquiet with horse-drawn carriage rides that take visitors from the 1779 log station to the 1787 brick plantation house. The tour guides lead visitors in traditional Christmas carols that make this visit extra special.
Nashville’s desire to open its doors to its rich history is a testament to the Southern Hospitality found here.

As an employer, it is important to locate and hire the best employees when there is an opening within the company. If that opening requires special skills, then it may be necessary to consider applicants from outside the company’s immediate geographical area. In these cases, a relocation package may be offered as incentive for the incoming employee to consider taking the position.
A relocation package is generally some assistance, usually financial, with the costs and effort involved in moving from one city to another in order to take a new job. From an employee’s perspective, the costs associated with selling their house, moving their belongings and their family, and finding a new home may outweigh the benefits of the new job if some or all of those expenses are not covered by a relocation package from the new employer.
Even if the new employer does cover all or most of these expenses, there is still considerable effort required on the part of the employee. The first thing they have to do is put their own home on the market. Depending upon the condition of the real estate market in their old city, it may take several months for the home to sell. Most employees, especially those taking a new job, may not be in the financial position to buy a new house until the old one is sold. That means they must seek some other accommodations in the new city until the old house is sold and a new one can be purchased.
Often, companies leave these arrangements up to the employee. They may offer reimbursement for his out of pocket expenses, which can be considerable. The employee meanwhile must come up with security deposits, first and last months’ rent, and the other costs out of pocket in advance and then wait to be reimbursed. The employee must also collect all the associated receipts and documentation in order to prove the expenses, and then turn these in to the appropriate personnel at the new company in order to even qualify for the reimbursement.
Additionally, the employee must first find the apartment. They’ll need one which doesn’t require a long term lease, and one that is relatively close to the office, hopefully in a decent neighborhood. They’ll have very limited time to scout out new accommodations since they will have to do most of this from their old city.
One way that this entire experience can be simplified and handled more efficiently for both the hiring company and the incoming employee is for the company to contract with a corporate housing provider. Corporate housing providers supply furnished apartments on a short term basis. These units are move in ready, and the employee need not worry about finding someplace to live. It’s all handled for him. The expenses (rent and utilities) are itemized on a single monthly invoice that is sent directly to the company for payment. This frees the employee of the task of collecting receipts and of making out of pocket expenditures.
