To achieve a high ranking on the results page of major search engines, it’s important to have other reputable websites link to the content available on your website. Having an abundance of high quality content can help with that as can proactively cultivating links with help of a good Search Engine Marketing firm. Ideally, you’d like the quality of your website and the content you offer to be such that other websites dealing with similar topics, decide to link to your website because they think their visitors will benefit from the information you provide. However, it can be difficult to monitor the number of new incoming links to your site.
One of the methods you can use to help identify new incoming links is a tool provided by the world’s largest search engine called Google Alerts. Google Alerts let you input a specific string of text and then receive an email alert whenever that string appears on a new website that has been indexed by Google. By entering your URL and your company name as Google Alerts, you can receive an email notification every time another website adds either of those to its site.
Google Alerts won’t tell you, however, if your site has been linked from another website without either your URL or website name written out as text on the site. For example, if your website sells cameras, and a photography hobbyists blog links to your website within the text of their blog using “camera retailers” as the anchor text for the link, Google Alerts won’t pick up the addition. Google and other search engines will, however, still credit your website with a link from a relevant website for the purposes of determining the search results page rank of your website.
If your SEO marketer is actively cultivating incoming links for your website, then they should be able to provide you with a list of the sites which have added those links as a result of their efforts. Often, SEO marketers will also have staff writers that can create continuously fresh and relevant, high quality content for your website so that you can spend your time running the business instead of worrying about keeping blog entries up to date.
Whether you use an SEO marketing firm to help you achieve top search engine ranking or not, your website will live or die by its ranking for the search terms that are used by your potential customers. A first page ranking means that your website will receive a good portion of those customers while lower search results ranking positions generate little if any web traffic to your site.
